CAD Converter

CAD Converter extension enables conversion for many common CAD file formats to USD.

To enable the CAD file importer if not already enabled, go to Window -> Extensions and check omni.kit.converter.cad.

Importing STEP and IGES files

Once the CAD Converter is enabled, the following file formats will be added to the list of supported file formats on the File -> Import dialog:

  • CATIA V5 Files (*.CATDrawing, *.CATPart, *.CATProduct, *.CATShape, *.CGR)

  • IFC Files (*.ifc, *.ifczip)

  • JT Files (*.jt)

  • NX - Unigraphics Files (*.prt)

  • Parasolid Files (*.xmt, *.x_t, *.x_b, *.xmt_txt)

  • SolidWorks Files (*.sldprt, *.sldasm)

  • STL Files (*.stl)

  • Autodesk Inventor Files (*.IPT, *.IAM)

  • CATIA V6 Files (*.3DXML)

  • AutoCAD 3D Files (*.DWG, *.DXF)

  • Creo - Pro/E Files (*.ASM, *.NEU, *.PRT, *.XAS, *.XPR)

  • Revit Files (*.RVT, *.RFA)

  • Solid Edge Files (*.ASM, *.PAR, *.PWD, *.PSM)

  • Step/Iges (*.STEP, *.IGES)

There are three different methods to import files using the CAD Converter Extension.

Method 1: File -> Import

You can use the File -> Import option to convert a CAD file to USD.

Method 2: Content Browser

You can use the Content Browser to convert a CAD file to USD. There are two entry points for this.

Import Button

You can use the Content Browser to navigate to a folder with CAD files. Once you select the folder, click the ‘Import’ button with the green plus icon. This will bring up a dialog and ask you to pick a CAD file.

Right Click

You can use the Content Browser to navigate to a CAD file and right clicking on it. This will bring out a Context Menu and there are two options to import a CAD file: ‘Convert to USD’ and ‘Open CAD File as USD in New Stage’.
